The Indipendent Electoral and Boundaries Commission(IEBC) has said that it does not have funds for a re-run in the August general elections.
Speaking during a consultative meeting with religious leaders, IEBC Chairman Wafula Chebukati stated that they only have enough funds for general elections and not a re-run in case there is a run off.
“We do not have a budget for a re-run, we are not planning for a re-run. We are planning for a general elections in August. In case of any eventuality, we will deal with them when they arise,” he said.
Chebukati further noted that this year the budget was fixed, hence there was no enough civic education done in different places.
“As a commission we only got the election budget this year and we have done what we can with it even though we had a deficit. However we have two civic educators in every ward,” he stated.
The consultative meeting was attended by various religious organizations from all parts of the country, including National Council of Churches in Kenya, The National Muslim Leaders Forum, Hindu Council of Kenya among others.
He also urged stakeholders to assist where they can to enable IEBC achieve its constitution mandate in the August polls.
