
Meta, the parent Company of Facebook has award a Kenyan creator sh3 million for content centering the Nairobi boda boda scene.
Michelle Angawa, a kenyan film editor and creator was among the six finalist under a programme christened Future Africa which tells influential stories across the globe.
Angawa who will be facilitated with USD30,000 will be tasked creating tragicomedy content showing ‘a day in the life of a Nairobian boda boda rider’.
The content is set to explore the life capital based riders, showing desires and complexities in their lifestyle.
This programme is focused on harnessing and investing in the next generation of Extended Reality(XR) creators in Africa.
Besides the financial support, the creators will be accorded mentorship and tickets to attend XR events to bring out more of their creativity.
“As part of the Future Africa: Telling stories, Building Worlds’ programme, each creator will be supported with funding of upto USD 30,000 and also participate in XR industry events to improve their creativity and drive interest in their projects. They will also access mentorship from Electric South and Imisi3D,” read the statement.
The other five winners were from South Africa, Nigeria, Mozambique, Cameroon and Mauritius.
