Residents in outcry as Dry spell hits Kisumu

Kisumu residents are facing a water shortage crisis following a reduction in the water levels at River Kibos.

Kisumu Water and Sanitation Company (KIWASCO) on a notice to its clients said that the ongoing dry spell has affected its production capacity at Kajuliu Treatment Plant.

“We are experiencing the effects of climate change that are manifested in the unpredictable weather patterns…”

“Such conditions are impacting negatively on our water supply and as a result the production capacity of Kajulu Treatment Plant has drastically reduced due to the reduced water levels at River Kibos,” read the notice.

Residents have raised several complains pleading with the water supplier to restore normalcy.

“We are in bad water crisis we can’t even have water to sustain our basic needs,” said Melvin Omondi.

Some of the affected areas include Migosi,Lowle,Mamboleo, Manyatta,Nyamasaria,Kondele and Nyalenda areas.

KIWASCO has however urged the residents to invest in adequate water storage facilities and use water sparingly as they work to solve the situation.

“We therefore advise all our customers to invest in adequate water storage facilities, use water sparingly especially during the dry spell,” read the notice part.
