The government has put in place measures to regulate how boda boda riders will be operating after the sexual assault incident in Nairobi last week.
A special team has been formed to help in the streamlining of the sector in the next 60 days after the President issued crackdown orders on Tuesday.
Smart driving license
Speaking during a meeting with boda boda riders in Nairobi, Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i said the government will facilitate the registration of all the operators within the next two months.
“We will begin with vetting all the riders, all the riders must have smart license and be in saccos,” he said.
The registration process will be free and all the riders will be expected to have a smart driving lincense.
Matiang’i further noted that each rider should have the smart license for identification to help them get rid of rogue operators.
“We want to use this process as the fastest way of removing the wrong people from the boda boda sector,” he said.
Monthly Forums
The Cs also directed Nairobi Regional Commissioner William Thuku to hold monthly sessions with boda boda leaders to listen to their ideas and grievances.
“It will be effective this month, we want to begin your monthly forums with boda boda leaders. The first one i will attend it myself together with Mutyambai and PS Kibicho,” he said.
“We want to listen to your ideas as well on how to improve the sector.”
