Sauti Sol’s band member Willis Austin Chimano has called out Nairobi police officers for shutting down his festival scheduled for February 26,2022.
The festival christened ‘Love and Harmony’ festival was cancelled a few hours before commencing at Junction Mall.
According to the authorities the event posed security threats in the area being the main reason for the cancellation.
Chimano, who was sings with Kenya’s afro pop band Sauti Sol, has recently has been doing solo projects just like the other band members, went online and blasted the authorities who he feels are out to bully him.
“Bullies never win, you may have gotten your way this time, you’ve only made my resolve stronger…The show that i’ve been working so hard on will be seen. That is a fact!”…he tweeted.
According to a post shared online, the organizers said the police informed them that they couldn’t proceed with the event due to security reasons and did not give further details.
Chimano however vowed to continue with the quest to have the festival done despite the challenges.
“Despite us approaching them for further explanation and heeding their advise to have the event out of Westlands, we met the same hurdle at our new venue, the junction mall. Both venues were and are more than willing to host us. However, without the goodwill of the police, we cannot proceed. Goodwill which was unfairly and unjustly denied.”
Love and Harmony, was initially planned to be held in Westlands before they were told to find an alternative venue outside Westlands which they got at Junction Mall.
Chimano alluded that the decision made by the police was reached due to his advocacy and human rights activism. He assured fans that their tickets will be refunded.
