The Independent Electoral Boundaries Commission(IEBC) has pushed Murang’a Women Representative Sabina Chege’s grilling process to March 8th,after being hospitalized.
The hearing of Chege involving her vote rigging remarks in Vihiga during a rally, which insinuated that the 2017 general elections were rigged in favour of President Uhuru Kenyatta, was postponed due to an adjournment request by her lawyer Otiende Amollo.
According to Amollo, Chege was not able to attend the meeting since she had been admitted at Nairobi Hospital on February 16th and is currently undergoing treatment.
“The respondent Murang’a Women Representative Sabina Chege is not in attendance today as she is indisposed and has been admitted at Nairobi hospital since February 16th and is currently still undergoing treatment,” Amollo told the commission.
According to the Commission’s Electoral Code of Conduct Enforcement Committee hearing on February 15th, IEBC chair Wafula Chebukati said that Chege was refrained from commenting on the case in public forums.
Chebukati noted that Chege broke the Code of Conduct by her wrong utterances which bounds her to reassuring voters of impartiality of the electoral commission and the secrecy of the ballot.
“The respondent here is a member of Jubilee party and a serving Woman Rep having been elected under Jubilee. In the premises, the respondent is subject to the Code of Conduct and is under the duty to abide by the same,” Chebukati said.
