
The Court of Arbitration for Sports has dismissed kenyan marathon runner Daniel Wanjiru’s appeal and upheld a decision to ban him for 4 years for anti-doping violation.
Wanjiru was suspended in April 2020,six months after the Integrity Unit found that there were high possibilities that the athlete had used illegal subsatnces.
The Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) said the Athlete Biological Passport(ABP) were highly abnormal and that there were high probabilities of doping and added that the panel was satisfied that the abnormal ABP values were caused by a transfusion.
“The CAS has dismissed kenyan marathon runner Daniel Wanjiru’s appeal and upheld the Disciplinary Tribunal decisions to ban him for 4 years for an ABP violation, ” said the Athletic Integrity Unit(AIU).
The 29 year old won the 2016 Amsterdam Marathon and finished 8th and 11th at the London Marathon in 2018 and 2019 respectively.
The case which started in December 9, 2019 will end in December 8, 2023.
