Orange Democratic Movement leader Raila Odinga has vowed to have the Kenya national soccer team Harambee Stars in the next African cup of nations (AFCON) tournament if he is elected president.
His sentiments came just a day after the games were concluded in Cameroon.
While congratulating the Senegal team for winning the AFCON title on Sunday 6th, Odinga said his administration would invest in football starting with community clubs.
“Congratulation Senegal on winning AFCON 2021, I promise the legion of Kenyan soccer fans that under my administration Harambee stars will be the next AFCON,” Odinga wrote on twitter.
Odinga has always been involved in football, as a fan and patron of multiple Kenyan champions Gor Mahia, he has also been involved in funds for local clubs majorly Gor Mahia and AFC Leopards.
He promised to invest in the game to actualize the pledge and he will ensure Harambee Stars would be fully supported to enable be in the World Cup competition.
“Shame on us for not playing in AFCON when small islands like Comoros and Burkina faso are playing at the Nations Cup yet Kenya is not there. When the World Cup is staged, Kenya is never there. I will make sure next time we play in AFCON and even the World cup,’’ said Odinga.
